Saute

To saute is like shallow frying or cooking in oil so that an ingredient changes colour or absorbs spices etc. An example of sauteing can be to saute onions, ginger etc in oil so that they are brown and give off flavour. 

Marinate

Marination is leaving food for a specific amount of time in a mixture of spices. The raw food usually is marinated before cooking so that it absorbs all flavour of spices and becomes
tender and easy to cook. You can marinate a dish for a few minutes to one day depending on the recipe.

Simmer

Simmering means to heat a liquid so much as it comes close to boil. you need to stir it with a spoon at short intervals so that it does not stick to the bottom.

Mince

Minced ingredients are very finely chopped pieces. The food processor or chopper is used to form a mixture of meat etc. Take an example of meatballs that are made of minced meat.

Julienne

Basic Cooking TechniquesJulienne is a professional term for cutting something into long strips. This can be done with many vegetables like carrots. A julienne peeler can make perfect pieces.

Chop

To chop is to cut with a knife or chopper into small pieces. The pieces are not always the same form. You will have seen cooks chopping ginger garlic or onions on the cutting board.
