Maintaining a germ-free Kitchen Sink
Simply rinsing the kitchen sink does not keep it germ-free. Regular sanitizing is necessary in order to protect your kitchen from germs and bacteria. Different types of sinks may require different types of cleaning solutions. To sanitize your kitchen sink, you can purchase a commercial disinfectant and use it according to the directions that are included on its label. You have the option to use homemade cleaners and disinfectants.
Avoid using Damaging disinfectants
For ceramic and cast iron sinks, you can mix one part liquid chlorine bleach to sixteen parts water. You may not use this solution on stainless steel sinks. You also need to be cautious when using a solution that includes liquid chlorine bleach. Pour it slowly avoiding surfaces that might be damaged with it.
You can use diluted white vinegar on the sink. For best results, apply the vinegar with a clean cloth onto the entire sink.
Acids and salts can damage the finish of a stainless steel sink. Mild soap and a nylon sponge can be used for cleaning every day. An all-purpose cleaner can be used to clean the sink as well. Rinse the sink after using a cleaner or soap and then dry it.
You can clean your sink with vinegar for spots. Better avoid cleaners like ammonia, bleach and other abrasive cleaners.
Use soft sponges and pads for your kitchen sink
Also, avoid the use of steel wool pads and abrasive sponges for your sink. They tend to spoil the finish. Wet the surface of the sink and sprinkle baking soda on it and scrub with a nylon sponge. It is the best way to get rid of stubborn stains.
Stubborn mineral residue can be cleaned by covering the sink with paper towels soaked in white vinegar. Let them stay on for half an hour and then remove. Use a nylon sponge to scrub.
You may use a little soap for cleaning or scrubbing. Rinse the sink completely when finished.
